At miniBOOSTER Hydraulics in Sønderborg, international students from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) are leaving a clear impression. The company currently employs five students from different countries, and for CEO Christen Espersen, the experience has been nothing but positive.

“It’s a real pleasure to have them here, and it’s important for Sønderborg that young people get exciting student jobs. They are hungry to learn – and incredibly smart,” he says.

From Southern Spain to Southern Jutland

One of the students is 18-year-old Carlos Herrero Sanchez from the southern part of Spain. He moved to Denmark to study software engineering at SDU Sønderborg and works 12 hours a week at miniBOOSTER. His main task is to sell hydraulic equipment to companies in Spain and South America – in his native Spanish.

“I really enjoy working here. Everyone is so helpful, and I learn a lot at miniBOOSTER,” says Carlos, who spends most of his working hours with a headset on, talking to customers thousands of kilometres away. He especially values the flexibility and work environment: “I like working here, and I get to choose my own schedule. The pay is pretty good too. The only thing I don’t understand in Denmark is why you eat your lunch so early,” he laughs.

An international strength

miniBOOSTER develops and sells hydraulic equipment used all over the world – in cranes, construction machines, and tunnel boring machines, among others. That’s why the students’ language and cultural skills are a huge advantage.

“They bring an international mindset and a lot of energy. They help us reach customers worldwide, and many other companies in the Sønderborg area could benefit from that too,” says Christen Espersen, CEO at miniBOOSTER.

Job through the GOTO JobMatch app

For Carlos, the adventure began when he created a free profile on the GOTO JobMatch app. That’s where he found the posting from miniBOOSTER – and then he took matters into his own hands. “I called Christen Espersen directly, and that made the difference. He needed someone who was good at talking on the phone, so I was lucky,” Carlos explains.

Just three weeks after creating his profile, he started his job at miniBOOSTER. “The app was super easy to use,” he says. Christen Espersen from miniBOOSTER is very happy with the result: “JobMatch gives us direct access to talented international students from SDU. It works really well for us – and it couldn’t be easier.”
