Newcomers’ network Sønderborg

The Newcomers’ Network is the place where you meet other people – Danish and international newcomers alike – who have landed in the Sønderborg area at the same time as you.

The network’s volunteer group holds events several times a month, so there’s always something to take part in. There are weekly yoga sessions for those who want to combine exercise with socialising. There’s a cooking club, if you’d rather meet over pots and good conversation. If you speak German, or simply want to practise the language, there’s a German-language Stammtisch. And from time to time, the group arranges smaller outings, so you can experience some of what the Sønderborg area has to offer together.

The purpose of the network is to help you establish a social life and a network outside the workplace – while also giving you insight into the municipality’s cultural, musical and historical offerings. The network can also be used to ask for advice, for example about jobs, housing or anything else you’re unsure about as a newcomer to the area.

An important part of the network’s culture is that members take their own initiative. So you can always post on the Facebook page and invite others along – that’s often how the best friendships start.

Associations and sports clubs

If you’d rather find community through a leisure interest, Sønderborg Municipality has over 700 associations and sports clubs that will welcome you and your family with open arms. Whether you dream of badminton, football, sailing or a quiet evening of chess, there’s a club to suit you – and with so many options, there’s a good chance you’ll find both the interest and new friends in the same place. Boblberg – find communities by interest

If you’re looking for a more informal, digital route to new acquaintances, Boblberg is worth knowing about. It’s a free, digital community where you meet others based on shared interests – regardless of age or life situation.

On Boblberg, you’ll find others who are looking for the same thing as you, or you can take the initiative yourself to start a new community around exactly what interests you.

The communities on Boblberg come in many forms – from travel groups and culture clubs to board game evenings, creative projects or groups for people in the same life situation as you. They typically start with a post, called a “bobl” (bubble). Boblberg is designed to be a safe and informal place, where it’s not about appearing perfect, but about finding people you have something in common with. New bubbles arise every day, created by people inviting others to join.

Boblberg is part of the Danish Red Cross’s work to create more communities in Denmark, which is why a number of social initiatives are gathered in one place.
