There’s no place like home. These are the words of Christine Nørgaard Skylvad, who, after studying and living in Aarhus for a number of years, has moved back to Sønderborg with her husband Christian. They have built their dream home here and landed exciting jobs.
Anne and Fabian Pattberg have known Sønderborg for a long time, and when the German couple longed for more nature and better living conditions, they decided to move 600 km north to the town centre.
Adapting to Danish culture has not always been easy, but for this French family, life in Sønderborg has nevertheless led to greater well-being and a better work-life balance. Today, they would think long and hard if they were offered the chance to move their home and career away from Sønderborg.
It wasn’t Sønderborg’s beautiful nature that made the difference to married couple Stine Paulsen and Nicolaj Gottlieb. They already lived in the scenic Virum, with its easy access to lakes and forests. They love Sønderborg’s unique coastal landscape now that they live here, but that wasn’t what clinched the deal either. What made them sell their terraced house in Virum and move back to Sønderborg, where they both grew up, was the quality of life and the opportunity to commute and be close to family, not to mention the slower pace of life and the opportunity to be more present.
