Around 150 students from across Denmark come together here in Year 9 and Year 10 to be part of an ambitious and inspiring learning environment that values both academic achievement and social development.

Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot – Focus, community, and future

At Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot, strong academic teaching is combined with experiences, innovation, and personal development. The school is aimed at curious and academically ambitious students who are eager to explore the world through books, hands-on projects, and a vibrant community.

Both Year 9 and Year 10 are offered, and clear expectations are set for students to be motivated and engaged. Academic excellence is at the heart of the school’s mission, and students are challenged and supported to grow and succeed.

Teaching with purpose and depth

Academic instruction at Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot is designed to promote in-depth learning and talent development. Lessons take place in small classes—typically around 20 students—organised into seven groups: two for Year 9 and five for Year 10.

There are differences between the Year 9 and Year 10 programmes, particularly in terms of the number and type of subjects assessed. However, students at both levels have access to the school’s Knowledge Academy as well as the same exciting trips and project-based learning.

The compulsory subjects in Year 9 include Danish, Mathematics, English, Science (Physics/Chemistry, Biology, and Geography), German or French, History, Social Studies, and Physical Education. In Year 10, the core subjects are Danish, Mathematics, English, Physics/Chemistry, Physical Education, and “TemaX” – a unique interdisciplinary programme focusing on thematic projects and collaboration.

A school year with perspective and thematic weeks

A year at Nordborg Slot is far from a repeat of standard secondary school routines. Several times a year, the regular timetable is set aside for themed weeks that focus on innovation, collaboration, and real-world topics:

  • Innovation week: Students work on ideas and solutions to both global and local challenges. The week provides a space to dive deep into what excites and motivates them, with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and teamwork. Student projects from this week have often gained recognition in science and entrepreneurship competitions across Denmark.
  • Citizenship week: In this democratic roleplay, students simulate a national election, taking on roles such as lead candidates, spin doctors, and journalists. It’s a week that helps students understand and appreciate the principles of democracy—and the importance of active participation in society.

Three trips – One shared experience

Travelling plays an important role at Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot—both as part of the curriculum and as a way to build community. These trips create lasting memories, broaden horizons, and strengthen the bonds between students.

All students have the opportunity to go on three annual trips, both within Denmark and abroad:

  • Introductory trip to Jammerbugten: The school year begins with a group trip to Jammerbugten. Here, you’ll get to know your new classmates through fun activities and shared experiences in beautiful surroundings.
  • Ski trip to Idre Fjäll in Sweden: The entire school heads to Idre Fjäll for a ski trip—whether you’re a beginner or experienced skier. Students stay in cabins, do their own shopping, and cook together, which helps strengthen community both on and off the slopes.
  • Academy trips: Later in the school year, you’ll choose from at least two different trips, each with a distinct academic or cultural focus. You’ll immerse yourself in something that genuinely interests you—and bring home new insights and unforgettable experiences.

These trips offer educational, cultural, and social value, helping students grow individually while bringing the school community closer together.

A place for those who want more

Scienceefterskolen Nordborg Slot isn’t only for those who are already high achievers—it’s for anyone who wants to make something of their education. Admission doesn’t depend on your grades but on your willingness and desire to learn, grow, and engage actively in the school’s community.
