Year 10 with a focus on the future

Year 10 at Adventure Efterskolen Sønderjylland is structured with study readiness in mind. Teaching is tailored to different academic levels so that every student – regardless of their starting point – can gain the most from their time here and be well prepared for the next step.

There are three learning tracks in Danish, German, English and Maths:

• Class A is designed for students preparing for upper secondary education and is taught in an auditorium setting. Lessons go into depth with the material, and there is a strong emphasis on reflection, debate and high-level immersion.
• Class B covers the same academic content as Class A, but at a slightly slower pace. There is more group work, variety and support from several teachers – ideal for students who learn best through collaboration.
• Class C is a smaller class with a strong focus on individual needs and foundational-level teaching. It offers structure, support and a calm environment to learn at your own pace – but it is not special education.

Placement in classes is based on an individual interview and a test – and you can be placed at different levels in different subjects.

The compulsory Year 10 subjects are:

• Danish
• Mathematics
• English
• AES10 (Adventure, Engagement and Society)

In addition, you can choose between German and Engineering as academic electives.

AES10 – a non-exam Year 10 experience

Are you dreaming of a more creative, free and community-based boarding school year – and less exam pressure? Then AES10 might be for you. This programme lets you immerse yourself in exciting projects, take a break from traditional school subjects and grow both academically and personally at your own pace.

AES10 is for those who think outside the box, take responsibility and want to help set the agenda. You work on one project at a time and learn along the way about project management, teamwork and the UN Sustainable Development Goals – all within a supportive environment focused on wellbeing, personal growth and strong social connections.

AES10 offers a meaningful and alternative end to your lower secondary school years – and prepares you well for your next step in education.

Create your own adventure with electives

The elective subjects at Adventure Efterskolen Sønderjylland give you the freedom to shape a boarding school year that suits you perfectly. You choose new electives three times a year, giving you the chance to dive into something you already love – or to try something completely new.

Whatever you choose, your interests are at the centre – and the range is wide: ball sports, archery, climbing, parkour, music, drama and much more. Each period brings new possibilities, so you’ll enjoy a year full of variety, personal growth and exciting experiences.

Explore your passions through specialised subjects

The specialised line subjects at Adventure Efterskolen Sønderjylland allow you to immerse yourself in what truly excites you – whether you’re experienced or trying it for the first time. You choose your line subjects for three periods throughout the year: autumn, winter and spring.

The winter subjects are the biggest and most popular, and by registering early you’re guaranteed a place on your preferred winter course. For the autumn and spring periods, you can choose subjects such as kayaking, adventure racing, tree climbing, mountain biking, fitness and more.

There are countless opportunities to take on new challenges and develop academically and personally – entirely at your own pace.
