In Sønderborg, one of the country’s most talented and ambitious symphony orchestras is based. The new music director, Adam Stadnicki, has the ability to attract some of the biggest names from the international classical music world, and the orchestra is undergoing a major generational shift.
It might come as a surprise to some that one of the country’s most skilled and ambitious symphonyorchestras is located in Sønderborg.
Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester has a state-of-the-art concerthall at Alsion, right by the water in the heart of Sønderborg. Even though the orchestra has beenaround for many years, fresh and visionary tones have now emerged within it.
A Music Director with Big Ambitions
The new music director, Adam Stadnicki, has just embarked on his second season. With his immense passion and grand vision for the orchestra, he has managed to attract many of the biggest stars in the classical music world. One of these stars is the 23-year-old Swedish violin virtuoso, Johan Dalene. He truly impressed the audience during the season opening in September 2025 with his fabulous violin playing and immense charm.
“The symphony orchestra holds great cultural significance. It is a shining star in Sønderjylland,” says Tanja Have, CEO of the GOTO Sønderborg Foundation.
Unforgettable Experiences
In addition to contributing to the local culture and music scene, creating major artistic moments, Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester also offers more than just classical concerts. This year, for example, it will be possible to experience TV2’s “Store Juleshow” (Big Christmas Show) on stage at Alsion.

When Jeppe Nedergaard started art school in Sønderborg seven years ago, he had never painted before. He had previously drawn and done graffiti, but painting was new to him. Today, he has found his style in contrasts and semi-abstract expression, and he makes a living from his art, which is primarily sold at Galleri Maxus101 in Augustenborg.
